FELASA Workshop on the Severity Classification and Reporting under EU Directive 2010/63/EU
23st of June 14:30 to 17:30
AIMS
Aiming to improve the welfare of animals used in scientific procedures, Directive 2010/63/EU introduced the need to classify the severity of procedures, both in terms of anticipated (“prospective”) and actual severity (Art 15).
Consistency of severity classification across Member States is critical for the harmonisation of licensing and reporting. Therefore, the European Commission has proposed FELASA the creation of a standardised Workshop on Severity Classification of Procedures that could be held in the various Member States.
These Workshops, held by FELASA Trainers, allow great interaction with the audience through the analysis and discussion of “real-life” case studies.
TARGET AUDIENCE
- Members of Animal Welfare Bodies or Animal Ethics Committees;
- Laboratory animal veterinarians
- Researchers planning, coordinating or performing animal experiments
- Laboratory animal technicians (senior);
FACULTY
Dolores Bonaparte | Fundação Champalimaud / SPCAL
Nuno Henrique Franco | i3S / SPCAL
PROGRAMME
- Severity Assessment and Reporting
- Group review of selected case studies, identifying impact, severity and endpoints
- Plenary discussion of such cases
- Turning Point voting system (multiple choice) for classification of actual severity
- Open discussion of any specific cases shared by the attendees
Note: This Workshop will include a light lunch
