Magda Castelhano-Carlos, head of the animal facility at the ICVS of the University of Minho School of Medicine, was re-elected President of the Portuguese Society of Laboratory Animal Sciences (SPCAL) during its 20th-anniversary congress in Coimbra.

Under her leadership from 2021 to 2023, SPCAL organized its first scientific day, introduced online exam platforms, and resumed practical courses. SPCAL also joined ICLAS and signed the Transparency Agreement on Animal Research in Portugal.
